Dog-friendly pubs, cafés and walks
We only list a place here if the venue itself, or a dog-friendly or pub listing, says dogs are welcome, and we cite that source on every entry. Rules can change, and many places only allow dogs in certain areas, so check with the venue before you go.
Pubs

Bamburgh, 175 Bamburgh Avenue, NE34 6SS (overlooking The Leas). Greene King's page for the pub says dogs are welcome; the DogFriendly listing says dogs are welcome in designated areas, with water bowls on request, and to mention your dog when booking online. Cafés
Sea Change, 158 Ocean Road, NE33 2JF. The café says it's dog-friendly. Vegan and vegetarian. Tue–Sun 10am–3:30pm, closed Mondays. (Sea Change South Shields (venue website); checked 4 Nov 2026)
Smith's Seaview Cafe, South Foreshore, NE33 2LA. The Dog Furiendly listing says dogs are welcome inside, with a water bowl available. (Dog Furiendly listing: Smith's Seaview Cafe; checked 4 Nov 2026)
Souter Lighthouse café, Coast Road, Whitburn, SR6 7NH. Dogs welcome in the grounds and café; only assistance dogs in the lighthouse. Café open Fri–Sun 11am–3pm in Nov–Dec. (National Trust: Souter Lighthouse and The Leas; checked 3 Nov 2026)

Dog walks
- The Leas: a two-mile clifftop route from Trow Rocks towards Marsden Bay and Souter, with plenty of green space for dog walking. (Visit South Tyneside: The Leas; checked 4 Nov 2026)
- Marsden Bay: dogs are welcome on Marsden Beach all year. The steps by the Grotto are closed until spring 2027; use Redwell Bank steps when tides allow. - Bents Park and the seafront parks: dogs must be on a lead in South Marine Park at all times and kept out of fenced play areas everywhere. (South Tyneside Council: PSPO review 2026; checked 3 Nov 2026)
- Arbeia normally allows dogs on a short lead on the fort site, but it is closed until spring 2027. (North East Museums: Visit Arbeia; checked 3 Nov 2026)
